The day after Governor DeWine shared news of new orders concerning masks and gatherings, and the potential for additional orders impacting bar, restaurants, and fitness centers, updates to the Ohio Public Health Advisory System were announced.

Delaware County saw its level raised from Level 2/Yellow to Level 3/Red, reflecting the triggering of more indicators related to COVID-19 levels. In specific, went from three indicators met on November 5 to five indicators met on Thursday

The two new indicators triggered include the average increase in new cases and visits to local emergency departments.

New positive test results over the previous two weeks increased from 445 to 662, an almost 50% increase.

Ohio was a “sea of red” on the new map. Two counties, Franklin and Tuscarawas, are on the verge of turning purple. Only one county, Noble County in southeast Ohio, is at the lowest, “Yellow” level.

Delaware County schools’ new COVID numbers were also reported, and show that 48 students and staff tested positive over the last week.

Impacted schools/districts were as follows:

  • Big Walnut — 3 students
  • Buckeye Valley — 2 students
  • DACC — 5 students, 1 staff
  • Delaware City — 3 students, 3 staff
  • Olentangy — 25 students, 6 staff

According to the Department of Health, “A report of COVID-19 should not be interpreted as an indicator that a school district or school isn’t following proper procedures—school cases can be a reflection of the overall situation in the broader community. Families and staff should always feel free to ask questions of the school district or school.”
