October’s First Friday in downtown Delaware is sure to have something for just about everyone.

For the young ones in your family, the Delaware Fire Department will have fire trucks and other firefighting equipment on hand. Members of the Department will be demonstrating lifesaving techniques, including the use of fire extinguishers.

Yoga will be presented by The Wonder Within yoga studio at 29 North Sandusky Street through a class with Dan Navins, Baptiste yoga teacher, US Army veteran and a wounded warrior. This 30 minute yoga class, free to participants, requires online registration. You can do so here – but do so quickly as space is limited. Remember to bring your mat as well.

Rounding out the evening will be a singularly unique moment in Delaware history – the unveiling and dedication of the new statute of native son and US President Rutherford B. Hayes. It will stand, together with a fountain, on the southwest corner of the Sandusky and William Street intersection, across from City Hall. 1808Delaware will have an additional story on the statue before First Friday.

The event will take place from 6 PM to 9 PM along Sandusky Street downtown. The Hayes statue will be dedicated at 6:30 PM.
