At its regular meeting on September 16, the Big Walnut Local Schools Board of Education voted to implement a mask requirement for all students.
As a follow up, Superintendent Angie Hamberg shared the following message via the District’s website:
As you know, face coverings are required on all school buses due to a Federal order. Additionally, due to continued impact on attendance from Covid-19, our Board of Education voted at last Thursday’s meeting to implement a K-6 school mask mandate for students. This week, Big Walnut Local Schools shared a video which takes viewers on a trip through the inside of the new Big Walnut High School, under construction on land off of Kintner Avenue in Sunbury.
The building is adjacent to the new Prairie Run Elementary, which is now up and running. Both projects were made possible by voter approval of a bond issue in November 2017. At the time, the projected cost of the new high school facility was set at $87 million.
The new Big Walnut High School will occupy 325,000 square feet of space and will relieve overcrowding at the District’s current building. More…

The Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) has approved $6.6 million in grants since July 1 to improve school safety and security across Ohio.

Big Walnut Local Schools is turning to the community to help in its choice of a name for the district’s newest elementary school.
The new facility was approved by voters in November of 2017 and will sit in close proximity to the new Big Walnut High School on a total of 103 acres. The price tag for the elementary building is $17 million, and it is set to enroll its first class in the 2020-2021 school year. More…
