Scioto River Sweep

The Delaware General Health District’s Keep Delaware County Beautiful program is seeking volunteers to help pick trash out of the Scioto River on September 7.

The Scioto River Sweep will take place that day from 9:00 AM to Noon. Volunteers will meet up at 8:30 AM at the Bellpoint Community Church shelter on State Route 257, and proceed to  clean up riverbanks on foot and the river channel in canoes. More…

Porter Township Mosquito Fogging

The Delaware General Health District is informing Porter Township residents that mosquito fogging will occur on Tuesday, August 20 as a result of a mosquito collection trap testing positive for West Nile virus.

Weather permitting, the Heath District’s Residential Services Unit will fog all areas west of Fredricks Road, east of State Route 61, south of Chambers Road and north of Monkey Hollow and Patrick Roads. Exact fogging zone is located on the mosquito page of DelawareHealth.org. More…

The Delaware General Health District will call a new location home after the Board of Health purchased property this month to construct a new building on South Sandusky Street near Country Club Rehabilitation Campus.

At Monday evening’s meeting of Delaware City Council, some good news was shared with those in attendance by Health Commissioner Sheila Hiddleson of the Delaware General Health District.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of two legislative acts that shaped the future of public health in Ohio. The Hughes Act and Griswold Act, both enacted in 1919, established the modern-day organization of local health departments and laid the foundation for public health efforts still in effect today.

County Health Improvement Plan Completed, Available For Comment

The Delaware County Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) has been completed and is posted for public comment on the Delaware General Health District’s website.

The Health District is asking community residents to visit this site to review the action plan and post any comments or suggestions by November 19. Teen Driver Safety Week Highlights Serious Issue

The week of October 21-27 is designated as National Teen Driver Safety Week and members of the SAFE Teen Driver Safety Task Force are using the week to bring awareness to an increasingly tragic subject.

“Teens are more likely than older drivers to underestimate dangerous situations or not be able to recognize hazardous situations,” said Jackie Bain, SAFE coordinator and community health specialist for the Delaware General Health District. More…
