New Genoa Township Police Station Planning Underway

2018 Saw Improved Air Quality In Central Ohio

In its recently released Air Quality Monitoring End of Season Report for Central Ohio, the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC) reported good news in 2018 for Central Ohio residents – especially those with respiratory conditions.

MORPC is part of a network of agencies across the country that issues daily air quality forecasts and notifies the public when air pollution levels are considered to be unhealthy for sensitive groups of people. MORPC monitors for two main air pollutants that are a threat to public health in Central Ohio: ground-level ozone pollution and particle pollution (PM2.5). More…

Matching the hype, there’s no doubt that initial announcement of Delaware County’s potential “billion dollar amusement park” this past June was big news.

With occasional references to a possible cost of two billion dollars, Columbus Business First described Planet Oasis this way in June: “The capstone would be a 200,000-square-foot UltraStar Multi-tainment Center, featuring a movie theater, bowling alley, laser tag arena, arcade and a “uni-coaster,” a roller-coaster-type attraction reaching 150 to 200 feet.

The newest location for Namaste Nail, one of America’s most innovative nail salons, opens on Friday in the Polaris Area.

The approach of the company is to provide manicures and pedicures in a setting which promotes mediation and relaxation. According to Namaste’s website, open and planned locations go from one coast to the other, with a hope to have 100 locations open by 2021.

Take A Hike To Start The Year Off Right

There are two opportunities to begin your 2019 with hikes through nature in Delaware County.

A “New Year’s Day Hike” will start things off at 10 AM on Tuesday. This is the a healthy hike led by Preservation Parks’ volunteer Len Fisher through the woods and prairies of Deer Haven Park and Havener Park. Afterward, put up your feet a bit and warm up with a hot beverage and cookies by the fireplace in the visitors center.

Commissioners Approve $113 Million Budget For 2019

On Thursday, the Delaware County Board of Commissioners approved its budget for 2019. The $113,275,365 figure approved for General Fund expenditures increases operating expenditures by 4.3 percent over 2018 levels. This increase will allow for some modest increases in staffing and a 3.0 percent raise in salaries for non-union employees.

OWU Theory-to-Practice Grants Fuel Research, Internships, And Careers

From completing community mapping work in Costa Rica to comparing life expectancies in Italy and the United States, Ohio Wesleyan University students are receiving nearly $49,000 in new university-funded grants to support academic, research, and internship experiences. Ohio Wesleyan today announced it is awarding seven new Theory-to-Practice grants to enable 12 students and four faculty and staff mentors to complete OWU Connection experiences on campus; in Columbus; and abroad in Costa Rica, Italy, Morocco, and Northern Ireland.

OWU Appoints Alumna As Executive Director Of New University Initiative

To lead its new OWU Career Connection Center, Ohio Wesleyan University conducted a national search to find “a creative and visionary leader” who would serve as “an energetic, engaging and passionate advocate” for students preparing for a lifetime of fulfilling work.

It turns out the ideal candidate already was working on the Ohio Wesleyan campus and exemplifying all of the qualities she will help to develop in current and future OWU students. The university has announced that the appointment of 2005 alumna Megan R. Sanders Ellis as executive director of the new OWU Career Connection Center. She currently is serving as administrative director of Ohio Wesleyan’s Woltemade Center for Economics, Business and Entrepreneurship.
