Ohio’s Muzzleloader Season Results

Ohio’s white-tailed deer hunters completed the 2021 muzzleloader season with 9,708 deer checked from Saturday, January 2 to Tuesday, January 5, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife. Over the last three years, an average of 12,695 deer were taken during the same four-day period.

During the weeklong and extra weekend of deer-gun season, 86,853 deer were checked by Ohio hunters. In total, 102,672 deer were harvested with a gun, including muzzleloaders, during the 2020-2021 gun hunting seasons. Over the last three years, hunters harvested an average of 90,722 deer during the three gun hunting seasons.

The total number of deer taken in Ohio during all 2020-2021 hunting seasons is 187,883, with one month remaining to hunt with archery equipment. That number has already surpassed last season’s final tally of 184,468. Delaware County has seen 973  during this season. More…

Ohio’s Deer Gun Hunting Seasons Begin This Month

 Ohio’s hunters are taking to the woods and fields this month as gun seasons begin for white-tailed deer.

Youth hunters younger than 18 years old have their own weekend to hunt Ohio’s favorite big-game animal on Nov. 21-22, 2020. All hunters have the chance to hunt the traditional gun season from Monday, Nov. 30 to Sunday, Dec. 6, 2020, and again during the bonus weekend on Dec. 19-20.

Ohio, Delaware County Archery Hunters Seeing Early Season Success

Ohio’s white-tailed deer archery hunters have taken 53,922 white-tailed deer through Sunday, November 8, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife. Ohio’s archery season opened in September, and bow hunters are taking advantage of excellent hunting conditions, including fantastic weather. Ohio’s deer-archery season is open until Feb. 7, 2021.

The top 10 counties for deer taken by archery hunters so far in Ohio include: Coshocton (2,000); Licking (1,629); Tuscarawas (1,600); Ashtabula (1,558); Knox (1,430); Holmes (1,424); Trumbull (1,407); Muskingum (1,267); Guernsey (1,163), and Richland (1,101).

Delaware County hunters have taken 600 deer, compared to an average of 588 deer in the same period each year from 2016 to 2018. More…

First Of Ohio’s Deer Hunting Seasons Starts Saturday

Hunters have their first opportunity to pursue white-tailed deer during the 2020-2021 archery season when it opens on Saturday, Sept. 26, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife. Approximately 375,000 people hunt deer in Ohio, making it the most sought-after animal in the state.

“Ohio hunters can expect another fantastic year of deer hunting,” said Division of Wildlife Chief Kendra Wecker. “We have some additional public land hunting opportunities and welcome all hunters. In addition, the new HuntFish OH mobile app provides hunters more flexibility to report their harvest, and offers additional resources while people are in the field. We are looking forward to another safe and successful season.”

Ohio Fall Hunting Seasons Begin Tuesday

Hunting season is fast approaching, and Ohio’s hunters are invited to kick off the year beginning Tuesday, September 1 with opening days for squirrel, mourning dove, and more, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife.

“Fall in Ohio is an exciting time with so many hunting opportunities available,” said Division of Wildlife Chief Kendra Wecker. “We encourage experienced hunters to take someone new with them this year and wish everyone a safe, successful, and enjoyable fall hunting season.”

HuntFish OH App Now Available From ODNR

The free HuntFish OH mobile app is available now for Ohio’s outdoors enthusiasts to conveniently purchase fishing and hunting licenses, check game, and view wildlife area maps, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife. The HuntFish OH mobile app is available for Android and iOS users and can be found in the app store.

“Many people are using their mobile devices to purchase hunting and fishing licenses and other Division of Wildlife products. This new app will make those transactions easier,” said Division of Wildlife Chief Kendra Wecker. “We are excited to launch this new resource to help our customers.” More…

Apply Now for Ohio’s Controlled Hunting Opportunities

Hunters can apply now for any of the hundreds of controlled hunting opportunities available on Ohio’s public lands during the 2020-2021 season, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife. Controlled hunts include opportunities for white-tailed deer, waterfowl, mourning doves and more. The application period is open until Friday, July 31.

These special hunts are held on selected areas to provide additional opportunities for Ohio’s hunting enthusiasts. Hunts are available through ODNR Divisions of Wildlife, Parks & Watercraft and Natural Areas & Preserves. Hunters may apply for the controlled hunts by completing the application process online using Ohio’s Wildlife Licensing System at wildohio.gov. More…

Deer Hunting Sees Bigger Numbers In 2019

Ohio’s archery hunters have taken close to 75,000 white-tailed deer thus far during the early part of the season, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife. Through Tuesday, Nov. 26, archery hunters have checked 74,838 deer. Last year, archery accounted for 46% of the deer season total.

The count is higher than last year across the state and in Delaware County as well.

ODNR Announces Pheasant Releases; Largest Release At Delaware Wildlife Area

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) Division of Wildlife will be releasing ring-necked pheasants this fall at 24 of Ohio’s public hunting areas. More than 14,000 pheasants are scheduled to be released to provide additional hunting opportunities across the state.

ODNR Holding Lottery For Duck, Geese Hunting At State Parks, Including In Delaware County

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR) is holding a lottery for more than 280 permits to hunters wishing to construct a blind to hunt ducks and geese on select state park lakes this waterfowl hunting season. All but one of the drawings will be held the morning of Saturday, August 17. Portage Lakes State Park will hold its lottery on Thursday, August 15. Hunting and Fishing Licenses Available Soon

Delaware County’s hunters and anglers will soon be able to purchase their new state licenses.
