Delaware County Fatal Crash Numbers Reduced So Far In 2021

It’s a bit counterintuitive, perhaps. At the same time that many Ohio counties have seen substantial increases in Ohio State Highway Patrol traffic enforcement activity in 2021, Delaware County’s numbers are running relatively constant, year-to-date.

The increase statewide may be due to a traffic increase related to the reopening of the economy after 2020’s economic shutdown.

In Delaware County, enforcement stops are actually down, from 7,505 in 2020 to 6,924 this year.

Fewer Travelers May Have Contributed To A Safer Thanksgiving Holiday

A reduced number of traveling motorists may have contributed to a somewhat safer Thanksgiving holiday period on Ohio roads, according to numbers shared by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Provisional numbers indicate that nine people were killed in nine crashes during that five day reporting period (Wednesday at midnight through Sunday at midnight), as compared to 15 fatal crashes in 2019 in which 18 people lost their lives.

Of the nine fatalities this year, four were not wearing a seat belt, and two involved impaired driving, according to the Patrol. More…

Three From Sheriff’s Office Among Officer Graduates

Members of the 143rd Basic Peace Officer Class received training certificates during a graduation ceremony held Thursday afternoon at the Ohio State Highway Patrol Training Academy. The 39 graduates will assume duties as peace officers for 23 Ohio agencies.

Included in those 39 were three from the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office. More…
