Virtual Astronomy

It’s a new world at the renowned Perkins Observatory in southern Delaware.

Rather than shutting down while Ohio’s stay at home order is continuing to impact gatherings and travel, the observatory has decided to open up its Public Program offerings to include virtual stargazing.

Each 9:00 PM Friday evening program through May will combine telescope views with question and answer sessions, and will be available via Zoom. There is a limit of 100 virtual attendees at each event. More…

Do An Online Skywatch

You are invited to join Perkins Observatory for free online skywatches or planetarium tours at 8 PM on April 10, April 17, and April 24 (so far).

The virtual events, limited to the first 100 people to join the Zoom events, will be hosted by Don Stevens, observatory director. Depending on when the observatory is able to reopen, Stevens said, he may be adding more virtual events in May. More…

Women In Astronomy

Perkins Observatory will celebrate Women’s History Month with a presentation by four astronomical achievers – the first all-women graduate class in the history of The Ohio State University’s Department of Astronomy.

Learn About The Stars At Perkins

The rich history of astronomy is celebrated each week at Perkins Observatory south of Delaware, a history which began with Ohio Wesleyan professor Hiram Perkins and his donation of funds in 1896 for the construction of the first local observatory.

The current Perkins Observatory, built between 1923 and 1931, houses a 32 inch cassegrain reflector telescope, one of the three largest telescopes in the state. More…
