Sunbury Seeking Mowing Bids

The Village of Sunbury is currently seeking bids for mowing services at three local locations.

The work will be undertaken at Sunbury Memorial Park, Sunbury Square, and the Administrative Building. Each has a projected 26 to 36 mows to take place during 2021.

Fertilizer and weed control work is also necessary.

Additional details, including what must be provided by the winning contractor as well as special provisions relating to areas such as funerals at the cemetery, etc. can be read here.

Bids are due by this coming Wednesday, and can be dropped off at 9 East Granville Street or mailed. Questions should be directed to Brad Gerwig, Street Superintendent, 740-965-2704.

The Big Walnut Area Historical Society has a virtual treat for its winter program.

The Society invites you to a virtual Walk Around Sunbury Square with Polly Horn. Horn conducts the tour which also does for Big Walnut Schools 3rd graders.

In 1975, as Children’s Director of Community Library, Horn, carrying an arm load of Sunbury photos – many from The Sunbury News — began walking 3rd graders from Harrison Street School around the square. Safe Haven Baby Box Now Available At BST&G Fire Station

BST&G Fire District has installed a Safe Haven Baby Box located on the east end of the fire station at 350 West Cherry Street in Sunbury. The Safe Haven Baby Box will be available to the public starting on Tuesday, January 5 after the Safe Haven Baby Box Community Unveiling Event at 3:00 PM. This is the 4th Safe Haven Baby Box available in Ohio and the 56th in the nation.

The Ohio Safe Haven Law allows people to surrender their unharmed newborn without fear of criminal prosecution. The Safe Haven Baby Box provides a last resort option to surrender an infant, eliminating the face to face interaction with emergency medical personnel and ensuring a safe surrender of a newborn infant. The Safe Haven Baby Box organization also staffs a 24-hour hotline (1-866-99BABY1) to give women the opportunity to talk to a trained professional as they consider safely surrendering their baby. The hotline has received over 5,000 calls from all states in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. More…

Model Rocket Launches Continue In Sunbury

The “sky’s the limit” each third Saturday as the Central Ohio Rocketry & Spacemodeling Alliance hosts its monthly launch at Freedom Park in Sunbury. The next takes place on September 19.

Join the group to launch your rockets or just to watch the fun. Members will be on hand to answer questions and to demonstrate many facets of model rocketry. They will supply launch equipment and might be able to offer motors for you to use. They can also inspect your rocket, and help you prepare it for flight. If it needs repair, they can offer tips, and possibly even help repair it on the spot. More…
