Sunbury is seeking candidates to fill two vacancies, one on the Planning and Zoning Commission and one on the Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA).

  • Planning and Zoning Commission and BZA Board Member Qualities
  • Must meet the minimum criteria set by the charter:
  • An elector of the Municipality (registered to vote as a resident of Sunbury), and
  • Cannot hold any other office or be an employee of the Municipality.

Currently, the Planning and Zoning Commission meets on the fourth Monday of the month. The BZA meets on an as-needed basis. More…



Sunbury Looking For Input On Reservoir Improvements

Sunbury is looking for residents to comment on ideas to improve the village’s reservoirs.

To that end, it will be holding a Public Meeting at the reservoirs, north of the gate entrance on the north end of Otis Street. The meeting will take place on May 25 at noon, rain or shine.

The meeting is designed to obtain feedback as the Village completes an application for grant monies to improve the reservoirs for residents’ use by adding fishing piers and walking paths. Your comments and opinions are an important step in this process. More…

Sunbury Commission To Hear Presentation On Proposed Development

On Monday evening, the Village of Sunbury Planning & Zoning Commission has no specific decisions on its plate.

Instead, the published agenda states that the sole item of substantive business, other than the welcoming and swearing in of new Commission members, will be a presentation by representatives of the Donald R. Kenny Company’s Metro Development.

Sunbury Seeks To Fill Council Vacancy

There is an opening for the position of Sunbury Village Councilperson effective January 1, 2021. A seven-person council serves as the legislative authority of the Village.

Council meets the first, third and fifth Wednesdays of each month at 7:30 pm with additional committee meetings as assigned. The selected candidate would serve subject to all applicable laws until a successor is elected at the next November election in 2021. The position receives a stipend of $1900 per year, paid monthly.

Per ORC 731.12 all interested candidates MUST have resided in the corporate limits of the Village of Sunbury for a period of one year prior to their potential appointment and be an elector of the Village. More…


Sunbury Holding Open House For Trail Extension

The Village of Sunbury will be holding an open house for the purpose of seeking public comment on a proposed extension of the Ohio Fallen Heroes Trail.

The event will take place at 6:30 PM on Wednesday, September 23 on the first floor of the Town Hall at 51 East Cherry Street.

The proposal would continue an approximately 1000 foot segment of the trail from West Granville Street south through Old Orchard Park to the new high school. The trail connects the Community Library with the Fallen Heroes Memorial, dedicated in 2007. More…

Two Villages Go Two Ways On Solid Waste Removal

Earlier this year, the Village of Galena joined the Village of Sunbury in seeking a new contract for solid waste removal for village residents. Both communities felt that as they were adjacent to one another, and were seeking service at the same time, the joint effort was worthwhile.

Sunbury Council To Hold Public Hearing On Rezoning

On Wednesday evening, the Village of Sunbury Council will hold a public hearing on the rezoning application of Sunbury Plaza Limited Partnership for a zoning change on 9.805 acres it owns on Miller Drive, near the northwest corner of State Route 3C and US36/37,  for a housing development.

Leaf Pick Up Set In Sunbury

It is leaf collection time once again. The Village of Sunbury street crews intend to continue the leaf pick-up program as in prior years by following a specific Curbside Leaf Pick-up Schedule beginning on Monday,  October 15 and running through Thursday, December 6.

The Village will once again be divided into four (4) sections A, B, C and D as seen on the map below. Sections A and B cover the older, more heavily treed areas while Sections C and D are the newer sections of the Village. More…
