With the Thanksgiving holiday providing a one-day respite on reporting of COVID-19 cases, the Ohio Department of Health shared new statistics that covered both Thursday and Friday.

That two day total revealed that Ohio’s number of new cases grew by 17,065 during those two days, bringing the total to 399,908.

It is all but certain that the next update will take the state’s total over 400,000.

The total number of deaths now stands at 6,346, up 72 from Wednesday’s figure.

Because of its closure on Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday, Richland Public Health did not share its regular end-of-week update.

Figures for Ohio’s school districts and private schools was released over the holiday, and show that Delaware County’s educational institutions reported 85 new student cases of COVID-19 this past week, as well as 20 staff cases, for a total of 105.

These cases came from 7 different districts or private schools, including the following:

  • Big Walnut — 3 students, 0 staff
  • Buckeye Valley — 12 students, 2 staff
  • DACC — 1 student, 0 staff
  • Delaware City — 12 students, 9 staff
  • Olentangy — 53 students, 9 staff
  • St. Mary — 1 student, 0 staff
  • St. Paul — 3 students, 0 staff

A week ago, the number of reported cases at Delaware County schools stood at 71, and at 48 the week before then.

According to the Department of Health, “A report of COVID-19 should not be interpreted as an indicator that a school district or school isn’t following proper procedures—school cases can be a reflection of the overall situation in the broader community. Families and staff should always feel free to ask questions of the school district or school.”
