You may have heard the children’s poem, “Over the River and Through the Woods, To Grandmother’s House We Go,” which evokes holiday memories of yesteryear.

A similar positive vibe is present in Joe DiPietro’s “Over the River and Through the Woods,” which is being presented on Thursday through Friday of this week by the Westerville North Theatre Department.

The play dates from 1998, and originally played off-Broadway for over 800 performances. The premise is the same, although the characters and settings have been updated.

The production, which runs through March 13, will host a limited audience of 160 people for its six shows. Seating will be physically distanced to meet COVID safety guidelines.
According to the Department website, “I chose this production for two main reasons,” said Kim Mollohan, director of Westerville North’s theatre department. “First and foremost, I wanted to do a play with a very small cast for the protection of our students and production staff. Second, I loved the script and the message that no matter what issues we face or how difficult life becomes, family is everything.”

“The most amazing thing about this show is its authenticity,” said senior Autumn Nelson, who plays Emma. “From our incredible set, to beautiful costumes, to the heartwarming story, this production transports audience members and actors alike out of the theatre into the lives of a close-knit family learning how to love one another more fully.”

On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, the show starts at 7 PM. Online tickets are available here or at the door.
