We’re beginning a new series here at 1808Delaware, just in time for the beauty of a central Ohio spring.

It’s called “Take a Hike,” and it is exactly that. With each post, we’ll be featuring a walk or organized hike you can take by yourself, with groups, or with your favorite furry friend. In each case, they will be located within Richland County and will be generally accessible to the public, or easily made available.

Do you have a favorite walk you’d like to see us share with our readers? Just send information to us at: [email protected] and we’ll be happy to do just that.

Today we’re looking at the 1.5 mile loop trail located at Gallant Woods Park, a part of Preservation Parks of Delaware County.

The Park itself sits on almost 231 acres that contain prairies, wetlands, and woods. Wildlife abounds, from the aquatic variety to bluebirds and owls. The interpretive Gateway introduces visitors to wetland habitats and describes the transition from farmland to restored hative habitat.

The loop trail involves a very modest 22 feet change in elevation, making it very doable for the amateur walker.

Bird watching and wildflower spotting are also must-dos here.

Before heading out for this particular challenge, it might be a good idea to access a map for this trail on the AllTrails website. That site includes reviews of the Center, and what to watch out for in terms of both scenery and some challenges. The most recent entry was placed on the site on April 3, making the information quite timely.

The AllTrails site for the Gallant Woods Park Loop Trail can be accessed here.
