While there is a noticeable turnaround in the recent decline of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations, that change has not been reflected in numbers reported by Delaware County schools and long-term care facilities over the same period.

The number of new weekly infections has increased in the last two weeks, from 458 over the two weeks before April 1 to 497 in the two weeks before April 8. Also, one of the Ohio Public Health Advisory System indicators have been triggered again — the number of outpatient visits.

That shared, cases reported in Delaware County schools, as well as in nursing homes and assisted living centers, have not increased in a corresponding manner.

On Wednesday, the following numbers were reported by the Ohio Department of Health for the county’s long-term care facilities:

  • Abbington of Powell — 1 staff
  • Arbors at Delaware — 3 residents
  • Capri Gardens — 1 staff
  • Delaware Court Health Care Center — 1 staff

These cases do represent an increase over recent weeks, but not a marked one.

Similarly, Delaware County schools continue to report a very modest number of COVID-19 infections:

  • Big Walnut — 1 student
  • Buckeye Valley — 1 student
  • DACC — 2 students
  • Delaware City — 2 students, 1 staff
  • Olentangy — 2 students

On Saturday, we will review the most recent COVID-19 vaccination numbers for Delaware County.
