Special to 1808Delaware

Delaware City Council has announced the process for filling the vacant 1st Ward seat.

The deadline to apply is 5 PM, June 30, 2021. Candidates with complete applications will be invited to a public meeting for interviews with City Council on July 8 and (if necessary) July 15, at City Hall.

Candidates must be at least 18 years old and live in the City’s 1st Ward. The appointed candidate can seek election to the seat in November 2021 and, if successful, would serve the remainder of the
term expiring November 2023. The candidate can also obtain 25 signatures of 1st-Ward residents to submit with the application. Preference will be given to candidates who obtain signatures and express an interest in running for the remainder of the unexpired term, but neither are requirements to apply.

More information and the application can be found at http://ow.ly/Yy2F50F5YKc. Applicants may contact City Council Clerk Elaine McCloskey at 740-203-1013 or emccloskey@delawareohio.net with questions.

Former Member Chris Jones informed Council he was stepping down on May 24, after serving since 2010
