As the 2021-2022 school year progresses, it is clear that the rise in COVID infections in non-school settings is also taking place in Delaware County’s educational facilities.

Numbers released by the Ohio Department of Health on Thursday show that the number of reported infections in the county’s school districts and buildings more than doubled in the last seven days.

The footprint of that impact has also increased, with eight schools/buildings involved, versus six last week.

All in all, 79 new student cases were reported as well as 6 instances of positive COVID results for staff — for a total of 85. Last week, that total stood at 34. The rise was due in large part to a substantial increase in student infections in Olentangy Local Schools, which more than tripled.

Districts/facilities with reported cases included:

  • Big Walnut — 8 students
  • Buckeye Valley – 4 students
  • DACC – 4 students
  • Delaware City – 9 students
  • Genoa Christian Academy – 1 student
  • Olentangy – 51 students, 6 staff
  • Delaware St. Mary – 1 student
  • Delaware St. Paul – 1 student

These statistics are shared each Thursday by the Ohio Department of Health.
