Special to 1808Delaware

The Ohio State Bar Foundation (OSBF) is pleased to welcome two new officers and three new members to its Board of Trustees. Kris Burkett will lead the OSBF Board of Trustees in 2022 as President. Judge David Hejmanowski of Delaware County will serve as President-elect.

The OSBF Board of Trustees is composed of volunteers who provide leadership for all aspects of the Foundation, including awarding of grants, selection of award recipients, and guidance in finance, membership, and fundraising. Their work supports the OSBF’s mission to educate the public, advance the rule of law and build a better justice system. In 2021, the OSBF awarded over $1M in grants to Ohio nonprofits.

“I am excited for the year to come,” said OSBF President Kris Burkett. “In spite of the pandemic, the Foundation began some great initiatives over the past two years. We have welcomed several new staff members who have already shown themselves to be superstars, and with a dedicated and creative board, I am confident that it will be a great year for giving grants and spreading the message of the Ohio State Bar Foundation. I look forward to working with the staff and board to advance our mission to build a better justice system through new and existing projects.”

The newly elected officers and trustees began their terms on Jan. 1, 2022, with the first meeting of the OSBF Board of Trustees to be held Feb. 24, 2022.

Judge David Hejmanowski began his term as President-elect of the OSBF Board of Trustees and will become OSBF President on Jan. 1, 2023. Hejmanowski has served as the Judge of the Probate/Juvenile Division of the Delaware County Court of Common Pleas since February of 2015 and was previously a Magistrate at that Court and Juvenile Court Administrator.

He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, the Federal Advisory Committee on Juvenile Justice, the Ohio Supreme Court’s Commission on the Rules of Superintendence, the Ohio Supreme Court’s Advisory Committee on Language Services, the Ohio Judicial College, the Governor’s Council on Juvenile Justice, the Advisory Committee for the National Center for Juvenile Justice and serves as an officer for the Ohio Judicial Conference.

Additionally, Hejmanowski serves on the boards of the Central Ohio Symphony, the Arena Fair Theater Company, the Strand Cultural Arts Society and is president of the Delaware County Historical Society.

The Ohio State Bar Foundation is a 501(c)(3) grantmaking organization and the largest bar foundation in the U.S. Through our grants and programs, we educate and perform outreach to the public to make the law fair for all Ohioans.

Since 1992, the Ohio State Bar Foundation has awarded nearly $14 million in grants statewide. These grant dollars ensure that those in this community and throughout the state have the opportunity to understand the law better and have more access to justice.
