The Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC) approved Madison County and The Village of Buckeye Lake as its newest members at a commission meeting earlier this month.
The MORPC board meets ten times per year to discuss important regional issues, guide the direction of MORPC’s work, network with local leaders to discuss common problems, create solutions to shared regional challenges, and provide input on funding decisions. Additional benefits of serving on MORPC’s board include grants and funding opportunities, educational forums, training and seminars, technical assistance and data, and policy development.
“We are delighted to have Madison County and The Village of Buckeye Lake joining us as member communities at MORPC,” said William Murdock, MORPC’s Executive Director. “MORPC membership is an invaluable resource for helping serve residents and businesses alike, and we look forward to the knowledge and guidance of our newest members as we work together make the region a better place for all.”
Madison County
Primarily an agricultural area, 88% of the land in Madison County is dedicated farmland. The county ranks fourth in both soybean and corn production throughout the state of Ohio. Madison County is also home to the Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy (OPOTA), the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification & Investigation (BCI), London Correctional Institution, and Madison Correctional Institution.
Madison County attractions include the Madison County Fair held in July of each year; Madison Lake State Park; the nationally historic Red Brick Tavern; miles of Rails to Trails; the Jonathan Alder Cabin; and Big Darby Creek, a State and National Scenic River.

The Village of Buckeye Lake
The Village of Buckeye Lake is a community of approximately 2,746 residents and comprised of a mix of residential housing including single-family homes, condominiums, apartments, and senior living. Incorporated portions of the village are primarily within Licking County with a small portion of land located in Fairfield County.
Located on the north side of Buckeye Lake (a 3,300-acre recreational lake and Ohio’s first State Park), the village affords an abundance of recreational opportunities for visitors including boating, fishing, water skiing, swimming, picnicking, ice skating, ice fishing, snowmobiling, ice boating, shopping, walking, and camping.
