This year we’re continuing our look at unique events and attractions that are within an easy driving distance of Delaware County. We call these “Summer Road Trips.” Of course, we regularly feature the many extraordinary places to visit right here in Delaware County and encourage our readers to get out and experience what is on offer in our own backyard.

This is our first Road Trip idea, and it’s very close to home. Well, perhaps a bit longer than that.

From now through the summer, you can travel about 70 miles to take a trip 6,000 miles and many centuries away.

The Center of Science and Industry in Columbus (COSI) proudly presents the spectacular “Tutankhamun – His Tomb and His Treasures” exhibition, occupying a massive 15,000 square feet and running from now until September 4.

This exhibition offers a unique perspective into the remarkable discovery of Pharaoh Tutankhamun’s tomb in Egypt’s Valley of the Kings 100 years ago, by replicating the burial treasure within its original archaeological context.

Upon discovering the tomb of Pharaoh Tutankhamun on November 26, 1922, British archaeologist Howard Carter famously declared, “I see wonderful things!” Carter’s unparalleled find, which occurred after five years of arduous and seemingly fruitless excavations in the Valley of the Kings, revealed a virtually untouched pharaonic tomb filled with priceless treasures.

Now, nearly a century after this extraordinary discovery, the ‘Tutankhamun – His Tomb and His Treasures’ exhibition vividly recreates this historic event and the captivating tale of the burial treasure’s unearthing. Featuring 1,000 artifacts, informative graphics, films, and an audio guide, the exhibition delivers an immersive, educational, and engaging experience.

The exhibit has attracted 6.5 million visitors in cities worldwide, from Zurich to Seoul, and now makes its debut at COSI in Columbus.
