One thing’s for certain: there’s something for just about everyone during the coming year who loves local history. The Delaware County Historical Society recently announced in 2019 event schedule on its website. It includes:

  • American Indians, Then and Now — Stacey Halfmoon, Director of American Indian Relations, Ohio History Connection — Thursday, January 17, at 7 PM at William Street United Methodist Church
  • Underground Railroad Reader’s Theatre — Presented by the DCHS Curriculum Support Committee — Wednesday, February 13, at 7 PM at William Street United Methodist Church
  • Fighting for Freedom: the United States Colored Troops in the Civil War — Anthony Gibbs, Local History Department Manager, Ohio History Connection and Traveling Artist — Thursday, March 21, at 7 PM at William Street United Methodist Church
  • Curry School, 1890s private school in Delaware — Thursday, April 18, at 7 PM at the Barn at Stratford
  • World Wide Games – history of this well-known Delaware company selling wooden games–  Steve Schmidt, Volunteer researcher, Delaware County Historical Society — Thursday, May 16, at 7 PM at the Barn at Stratford
  • Frederick Douglass – Reenacted by Tracey Sumner Sr. — Thursday, June 20 at 7 PM at William Street United Methodist Church
  • Boomerang History  – Delaware Connection and Demonstration by Chet Snouffer — Sunday, July 14, at 6 PM on the Meeker lawn at the Barn at Stratford
  • Tour of Stratford Community and Church — Sunday, August 11, from 2 to 4 PM. Tour will begin at the Barn at Stratford; shuttle planned
  • Little Brown Jug Memories organized by the LBJ Oral History Group —
    Thursday, September 12 at 7 PM at the Barn at Stratford  (date & location tentative)
  • Oak Grove Cemetery Walk – reenactors will portray notable county residents who were buried there — Sunday, October 13, at 1 PM
  • Delaware County Historical Society Annual Meeting – Steve and Kerry Frazier reenacting Nathan Carpenter and Polly Cook, Delaware County residents who were in the Battle of Bunker Hill of the Revolutionary War — Wednesday, November 13, at 7 PM at the Barn at Stratford
  • Nash House Holiday Open House — Sunday, December 1
    Located at 157 East William Street, this beautiful 1878 Victorian house will be festively decorated for the holiday season. Refreshments will be served.
