The Facilities Committee met to evaluate the district’s needs in light of significant growth. Olentangy will welcome 374 more students than projected for the 2023-2024 school year, highlighting the importance of planning and expansion.
Redistricting Process for Elementary School 17
Preparations and Community Involvement
Preparations for Elementary School 17 are underway, with an attendance boundary committee working on redistricting. The committee will draft and refine options, collecting community feedback through online surveys and forums.
Final Recommendations and Current Capacity
The final recommendation will be made to the Superintendent in December 2023, with new attendance boundaries announced for the 2024-2025 school year. Currently, 12 of Olentangy’s 16 elementary schools are at 100% capacity or higher, emphasizing the need for redistricting.
Superintendent’s Report: Mental Health, Meals, and More
Behavioral Health Certification
Olentangy Schools is now the first school district in Ohio to hold a certification as a behavioral health provider, enabling access to state funding for mental health efforts.
No-Cost Breakfast and Lunch
House Bill 33 provides funding for no-cost breakfast and lunch to students qualifying for reduced-price meals, starting in the 2023-2024 school year.
Facilities, Technology, and New Middle School
Superintendent Todd R. Meyer summarized the summer facilities work, technology preparations, and professional development opportunities. The grand opening of Olentangy Berlin Middle School is scheduled for August 13.
Treasurer’s Report and Policy Updates
Fiscal Year Ending Update
Treasurer Ryan Jenkins presented a positive fiscal year ending update, with revenue approximately $11.5 million higher than anticipated, and expenses $3.7 million less. Cash reserves increased by about $31 million.
Property Valuation Increases
The Delaware County Auditor is estimating a 35% increase in property values in the Olentangy school district boundary, leading to a 6-7% increase in tax collections. A video series explaining the effects on taxpayers is in the works.
Policy Updates
Chief Academic Officer Dr. Jack Fette presented the second reading of policies to be added or updated, including policies on attendance, tax appeal proceedings, and district support organizations.
