Residents of Lewis Center are looking at a transportation transformation with the Orange Road Underpass Project. The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) along with the Delaware County Engineer is extending an open invitation to a crucial public information meeting scheduled for April 10. This gathering, set to unfold at the Orange Township Hall from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, marks a pivotal opportunity for community members to delve into the details of a project poised to reshape their daily commutes and enhance local emergency response capabilities.

An Open House for Open Conversation

This event will be a platform designed for open engagement, allowing attendees to explore project details, pose questions, and voice their opinions directly to the experts. The absence of a formal presentation ensures that every visitor can navigate the information at their pace, facilitating a more personalized and informative experience.

The Drive Behind the Underpass

The need for the Orange Road Underpass stems from the ongoing challenge posed by routine train traffic, which effectively bisects the community, delaying emergency medical services and complicating the daily routines of local residents. By constructing an underpass, the project aims to eliminate these barriers, fostering a smoother, more reliable flow of traffic and significantly improving response times for emergency services.

The project’s ambition goes beyond merely facilitating vehicular movement; it encompasses a comprehensive overhaul of the local infrastructure. This includes the creation of a roadway that not only accommodates vehicles but also provides for pedestrian and cycling traffic, alongside the installation of a deep storm sewer system to ensure the area’s resilience against adverse weather conditions.

Engaging the Community in Dialogue

With the construction phase on the horizon, the upcoming public meeting serves as a critical juncture for community input. The project’s proponents emphasize the value of resident feedback, encouraging attendees to share their perspectives and suggestions. This engagement is crucial, as it allows the project team to tailor their approach to best meet the community’s needs and expectations.

As the project, with an estimated cost of $43 million, moves forward, the importance of community involvement cannot be overstated. This meeting provides an invaluable opportunity for residents to contribute to the dialogue, shaping a project that will impact the fabric of their community for years to come. Those unable to attend are encouraged to reach out to Ryan J. Mraz, the DCEO Project Manager, to express their views or seek further information.

As the Orange Road Underpass Project unfolds, the engagement and input of Lewis Center’s residents will be instrumental in its success.
