Big Walnut Local Schools is turning to the community to help in its choice of a name for the district’s newest elementary school.

The new facility was approved by voters in November of 2017 and will sit in close proximity to the new Big Walnut High School on a total of 103 acres. The price tag for the elementary building is $17 million, and it is set to enroll its first class in the 2020-2021 school year.

The elementary is designed to house 500 students.

Both buildings are in the midst of meetings with the Village of Sunbury’s Planning & Zoning Commission and Village Council which are anticipated to last through the end of this month.

This, in turn, seems like a good time to name the new elementary school, and the Board of Education is asking the community for ideas.

Using this online form, proposed names can be submitted through March 1. In addition to a name, submitters are asked to share “…an explanation as to why you believe this would be a good name.”

Best of luck to you!
