The Central Ohio Symphony proudly announces the return of the distinguished pianist Dror Biran. His performance, set against the backdrop of Gray Chapel at 7:30 PM on May 4, will feature a selection of pieces that are as challenging as they are enchanting.

The Summit of Romantic Piano Concertos

Headlining the concert is Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 in D minor, Op. 30, a piece known for its technical and emotional demands on the performer. This concerto is often cited as the pinnacle of the romantic repertoire, offering a rich tapestry of themes and a relentless challenge for even the most adept pianists.

Tchaikovsky and Jolley: Echoes of Drama and Innovation

The evening also promises the dramatic storytelling of Tchaikovsky with “Francesca da Rimini,” a symphonic poem that vividly portrays the tragic tale of love and loss. Complementing the romantic classics, the audience will be treated to the world premiere of Jennifer Jolley’s “Lichtweg/Lightway,” a contemporary piece for orchestra that promises to add a modern dimension to the night’s historical reflections.

An Evening of Celebrated Compositions

Biran’s presence at the piano, combined with the Central Ohio Symphony’s ensemble, will ensure that each composition resonates with the audience. His previous performances, acclaimed for their “technique to burn” and the compelling contrast between powerful fortissimos and delicate pianissimos, anticipate an evening of extraordinary musicianship.

With a career that spans various continents, he has demonstrated his musical versatility by performing as a soloist with leading orchestras around the globe. His international engagements have included collaborations with the Lithuanian Philharmonic, RTVE Symphony Orchestra of Spain, Johannesburg Philharmonic, and the Louisville Orchestra, as well as a prestigious appearance with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.

Those who appreciate the profound beauty of classical music are invited to be part of this memorable evening. Further details and ticketing information can be found at www.centralohiosymphony.org, or by reaching out to the Symphony at (740) 362-1799 and [email protected].
