This rest area, one of the largest in ODOT’s system, has been completely transformed to offer a more engaging experience for travelers. The updated facility features a welcome center with three wings, providing tourism information and a large-scale video wall showcasing Ohio’s attractions. These upgrades aim to inspire travelers to explore Ohio’s unique destinations with their families.
Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks Recognized
A notable feature of the remodeled rest area is the inclusion of the Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks, which was recently designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This acknowledgment not only adds cultural value to the rest area but also promotes awareness of Ohio’s rich history. Additionally, ODOT is updating the landscaping with native plants, including a Buckeye tree, and adding educational signs to inform visitors about the state’s natural heritage.

During the unveiling, Governor DeWine announced an ambitious initiative to rebuild 33 of Ohio’s rest areas. As spring arrives, litter becomes more noticeable along Ohio’s roadsides. ODOT has been proactive in addressing this issue, collecting over 89,000 bags of trash since January 2024. The agency has partnered with various organizations to keep Ohio’s roadways clean, and it encourages the public to dispose of trash properly and ensure that hauled items are secure.
