The Powell Police Department has announced the promotion of Matt Cook to the rank of Sergeant. Cook, who joined the department in 2016 after an eight-year tenure with the City of Piqua Police Department, has consistently demonstrated outstanding dedication to the Powell community.

With a strong background in law enforcement, Cook has taken on various critical roles during his time with the department. His responsibilities have included serving as an Officer In-Charge, Evidence Technician, Technical Crash Investigator, In-Service Instructor, Field Training Officer, and as a member of the Delaware Tactical Unit. Each of these roles has showcased his skills and commitment to both his colleagues and the community.

A History of Excellence

Cook’s promotion reflects not only his personal achievements but also the Powell Police Department’s ongoing commitment to maintaining a high standard of safety and service. The department, consisting of 18 sworn officers and two civilian employees, is renowned for its proactive approach to law enforcement. Officers do more than just respond to complaints; they actively seek out long-term solutions to neighborhood challenges and ensure the protection of local businesses.

Accreditation and Standards

The Powell Police Department’s commitment to excellence is further demonstrated by its status as an accredited agency through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA). Since 2002, the department has upheld rigorous standards, and in 2016, it achieved the Gold Standard assessment, earning the Advanced Accreditation with Excellence—a testament to its continued dedication to the highest levels of law enforcement.

Looking Ahead

As Sergeant Matt Cook steps into his new role, the community can look forward to continued strong leadership and service from the Powell Police Department. His promotion is a well-deserved recognition of his hard work, and it signals the department’s ongoing commitment to providing unparalleled safety and security for Powell’s residents and businesses.
