The Delaware County Board of Developmental Disabilities (DCBDD) is moving its administrative offices to the heart of the city of Delaware, taking up residence in the historic Wolf Building at 149 North Sandusky Street. As of November 18, the DCBDD team will officially call this new location home. This relocation underscores the board’s deep-rooted commitment to serving individuals with developmental disabilities across Delaware County, aiming to make services even more accessible for the community they support.

Throughout this transition, DCBDD’s services will continue without interruption, and all existing phone numbers and email contacts will remain the same. The board appreciates the community’s support and understanding as they take this step to enhance their impact in Delaware County.

Comprehensive Services from Early Childhood to Adulthood

The DCBDD offers a broad range of services designed to support people with developmental disabilities at every life stage, with specialized programs that foster growth, independence, and community integration.

Early Intervention Services for Infants and Toddlers

DCBDD’s Early Intervention (EI) Services support children from birth to age 3, a critical period for growth and development. These services include developmental screening, therapy sessions, family support, and the creation of individualized development plans. The focus is on nurturing children’s abilities and preparing them for the next stages of life, giving families a foundation to help their children thrive.

School-Age Services for Continued Growth

For children ages 3 to 22, DCBDD provides resources to support success in school and the development of essential life skills. The board works with families to create and manage Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), offering advocacy and transition planning to prepare students for life beyond the classroom. These services aim to empower young individuals to build their independence as they approach adulthood.

Adult Services for Employment and Independence

Adults over the age of 22 receive guidance and support through a range of services that foster independence and employment opportunities. DCBDD offers job coaching, vocational training, and access to day programs, all of which are designed to meet each person’s unique goals. By providing tailored resources, the board helps adults achieve meaningful employment and maximize their independence.

Family Support Services for Caregiving Assistance

DCBDD understands the critical role that families play in the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities. Through respite care, financial assistance for adaptive equipment, and resource connections, the board supports families in managing care at home. These services aim to alleviate some of the financial and emotional burdens on families, providing them with the tools needed to support their loved ones effectively.

Service Coordination for Personalized Guidance

Every individual enrolled in DCBDD’s programs receives a dedicated service coordinator who assists with navigating the available services, setting up individualized plans, and connecting with community resources. This one-on-one approach ensures that each individual’s needs and goals are addressed, helping them make the most of DCBDD’s extensive offerings.

Emphasizing Community Integration and Residential Support

The DCBDD’s mission extends beyond basic services, as it prioritizes community integration and accessible living options for individuals with disabilities.

Promoting Community Involvement

Community integration is a cornerstone of DCBDD’s philosophy. The board encourages individuals with disabilities to participate in local social, recreational, and volunteer opportunities, helping to foster a sense of belonging. By creating pathways for social engagement and community involvement, DCBDD helps individuals enjoy fulfilling lives as active members of their communities.

Residential Services for Independent Living

DCBDD’s Residential Services support individuals who aim to live independently. Through housing assistance, home modifications, and connections with residential providers, the board ensures that individuals can access comfortable, safe, and supportive living environments tailored to their needs. This commitment helps individuals build confidence in their daily lives and enjoy the freedom of independent living.

Staying Committed to Community and Growth

The Delaware County Board of Developmental Disabilities looks forward to continuing its mission from its new location, fostering growth, inclusion, and independence for individuals with developmental disabilities. The new office location in Delaware offers the community greater accessibility, while DCBDD remains steadfast in its dedication to enriching the lives of those it serves.
