Berlin Township has embarked on a mission to enhance community connectivity through the development of parks and trails. This initiative is spearheaded by the Parks and Trails Advisory Committee, a dedicated group of volunteers committed to transforming resident feedback into actionable plans.

Community Engagement: The Foundation of Planning

In 2022, the Parks and Trails Advisory Committee conducted a comprehensive survey to gauge residents’ interests and priorities regarding recreational spaces. The survey garnered responses from over 500 residents, revealing a strong desire for multi-use paths and improved walkability within the township. This feedback underscored the community’s commitment to fostering a more connected and accessible environment.

Collaborative Planning with MORPC

Building on the survey insights, the committee collaborated with the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission (MORPC) to develop a strategic plan for trail development. In 2023, this partnership resulted in a detailed report outlining prioritized routes and recommendations for implementing multi-use paths throughout Berlin Township. The full report is accessible on the township’s official website, providing residents with a transparent view of the proposed developments.

Leadership and Volunteerism

The success of these initiatives is largely attributed to the dedicated volunteers leading the committee. The current leadership includes President Zach Brown, Vice President Hillary Cerny, Secretary Summer Hayes, and member Christina Littleton. Their unwavering commitment has been instrumental in advancing the township’s connectivity goals.

Opportunities for Community Involvement

Berlin Township is actively seeking new members to join the Parks and Trails Advisory Committee. This unpaid, volunteer position involves bi-monthly meetings on Wednesday evenings, where members advise on the planning, development, and maintenance of parks and trails. Residents interested in contributing to the township’s recreational development are encouraged to contact Trustee Meghan Raehll for more information.
