Downtown Delaware is gearing up for a magical new tradition as Main Street Delaware announces its inaugural Light the Night Christmas Parade! This luminous celebration promises to transform the heart of Delaware into a glowing wonderland on Sunday, December 8, 2024. With a theme centered around creativity and holiday lights, the event is set to dazzle spectators and bring the community together for an unforgettable evening.

Parade Details and Registration

The Light the Night Christmas Parade steps off at 5:00 PM from Mingo Park, located at 500 E. Lincoln Avenue. The route will wind through the downtown area, culminating at Wilmer Street.

Participants are encouraged to showcase their holiday spirit by decorating their floats, vehicles, or other entries with brilliant lighting displays. With the theme focusing on making downtown “glow,” this is a chance for groups to let their imaginations shine.

Registration Is Open

Interested groups can register for the parade through the Main Street Delaware website. Spaces are limited, so early registration is encouraged.

Important Parade Guidelines:

  • Start time: 5:00 PM (all vehicles must have headlights on).
  • No walkers, except for members of marching bands.
  • Participants must be on floats or in vehicles.
  • No candy or items may be thrown from floats to ensure safety.

A Weekend of Holiday Festivities

The parade is part of the Home for the Holidays weekend, running December 6-8. This weekend-long celebration will feature various activities and attractions, with more details expected soon. Mark your calendars for a festive kickoff to the holiday season!

Santa Claus will make a grand appearance, closing the parade in style while riding in a beautifully lit horse-drawn carriage. This special moment will undoubtedly be a highlight for families and children, adding to the evening’s magic.

Community Sponsors

The event is made possible thanks to the support of Amanda Denney and Brian Denney of Modern Woodmen of America, serving as the 2024 Christmas Parade sponsors. Their sponsorship ensures the parade will shine brightly for its debut and years to come.
