The holiday spirit is in full swing, and Genoa Township invites everyone to Celebrate the Season on Saturday, December 14 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the McNamara Park shelterhouse. This joyful evening, hosted in partnership with the Professional Firefighters Association Local 4307, promises holiday warmth and community giving through a toy drive, crafts, caroling, and the much-anticipated tree lighting ceremony.
Meet Santa and Share Some Cheer
A highlight of the evening will be the chance for kids (and kids at heart) to meet Santa in person. The magic of the holidays comes alive when little ones share their wishes directly with Santa, and there will be a special mailbox on-site for those wanting to leave a note for him. As an extra festive touch, expect to receive a video reply from Santa’s elf before December 25th—a wonderful keepsake to delight the children.
The cozy McNamara Park shelterhouse will be filled with holiday cheer. Cheryl’s Cookies and warm cocoa will be served, giving everyone a chance to enjoy some tasty holiday treats. Visitors can also craft their own ornament, adding a personal touch to their holiday decorations. Meanwhile, the Genoa Middle School choir will fill the park with classic carols, bringing a heartwarming soundtrack to the evening.
Bringing the Spirit of Giving to Life
At the core of the celebration is a toy drive to benefit local families. Attendees are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to help brighten the holidays for children in need. These toys, in addition to donations of winter clothing, gift cards, and non-perishable food items, will be distributed to local families through Big Walnut Friends Who Share, as well as area churches and schools.
For those unable to attend, donations can still be delivered to the Genoa Township Fire Department through December 31. The generous contributions from the community will be sorted and distributed based on each family’s needs, ensuring that everyone has a reason to celebrate this festive time of year.
Carolers, Crafts, and Cocoa: Holiday Fun for All Ages
The McNamara Park shelterhouse will transform into a true winter wonderland. Guests can enjoy sipping on cocoa while creating a special ornament craft to take home. The Genoa Middle School choir will serenade attendees with classic carols, evoking nostalgic memories of holidays past and spreading warmth throughout the park.
As the evening progresses, all eyes will turn to the tree lighting at 5:30 PM. The official lighting of the tree will bring a dazzling glow to McNamara Park, signifying the unity and warmth of the Genoa Township community during the holiday season.
