The City of Powell marked the start of 2025 with the celebration of two promotions within the Powell Police Department. On January 3, Sgt. Ryan Pentz and Sgt. Tyler McGraw were officially promoted to their new leadership roles, recognized for their outstanding dedication and accomplishments in law enforcement.

Sgt. Ryan Pentz: A Veteran of the Department

Sgt. Pentz has served the Powell Police Department since 2000, dedicating over two decades to the community. His career includes roles as both a patrol officer and detective. Along the way, he has completed a range of local, state, and federal investigative training programs and earned an Associate degree in Criminal Justice from North Central State College.

Pentz’s career highlights include being named “Top Cop of Delaware County” twice by the Delaware County Prosecutor’s Office, earning two City of Powell proclamations, and receiving the prestigious “Officer of the Year” award in both 2009 and 2023. These accolades underscore his commitment to the safety and well-being of Powell residents.

Sgt. Tyler McGraw: A Diverse Background

Sgt. McGraw brings a wealth of experience to his new role. Holding an Associate’s degree in Law Enforcement Technology and a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Ohio University, he began his law enforcement career with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office. He served as a jailer and road patrol deputy before joining the Ironton Police Department, where he excelled as a patrol officer, detective, and leader of the Drug Investigation Unit.

McGraw’s notable achievements include his work as an investigator with the Lawrence County Drug and Major Crime Task Force, where he secured critical convictions in homicide and felony cases. His broad skill set and leadership experience make him a valuable addition to Powell’s supervisory team.

Praise from Police Chief Ron Sallows

“Sgt. Pentz and Sgt. McGraw both bring dedication and leadership skills that make them invaluable members of the supervisory ranks,” said Police Chief Ron Sallows.
