Farming has long been the backbone of American life, shaping the culture and history of communities across the nation. In Delaware County, agriculture has played a pivotal role in the lives of generations. To honor and explore this rich heritage, the Delaware County Historical Society is hosting a special moderated panel discussion titled “Life of a Farmer’s Wife and Children Over the Years.”
The event, set for Tuesday, March 25 at 7 PM, will take place at The Barn at Stratford (2690 Stratford Road, Delaware, OH), offering attendees a unique opportunity to hear firsthand accounts from individuals who grew up on working farms.
The Stories of Women and Children on the Farm
Decades ago, farming was more than an occupation—it was a way of life for over 90% of the population, with families relying on agriculture to sustain their livelihoods. Women and children played an integral role in maintaining the household, tending to animals, preserving food, and ensuring the farm’s success. This discussion will provide a rare glimpse into what daily life was like for them—through the challenges, joys, and traditions that shaped their upbringing.
Moderated by experts in local history and agriculture, the panel will share memories, experiences, and reflections on how farming families balanced hard work, community life, and education in an era before modern conveniences.
A New Way to Participate: Virtual Viewing Option
For those unable to attend in person, the Historical Society is offering a new option—attendees can register for a live-streamed version of the discussion. With a minimal fee of $5, participants will receive a YouTube link, allowing them to watch from the comfort of their own home.
