The next program from the Delaware County Historical Society will present a speaker focusing on African American contributions to the American Civil War. Entitled “Fighting for Freedom: The United States Colored Troops in the Civil War,” the evening will feature Anthony Gibbs, Local History Department Manager at the Ohio History Connection and traveling artist.

The program is a visit with a civil war soldier from the 127th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. The evening will consider these questions:

  • Who was involved
  • Where the war took place
  • What was used in the war
  • Why the war started

Learn what made the United States Colored Troops different, and what they accomplished by fighting for the UnionThis visit from a Civil War soldier will enhance your knowledge with many visual aids that make history come alive for you.

The 127th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, which became the 5th Regiment United States Colored Infantry, trained at Camp Delaware, near Delaware, Ohio.

The program is free and open to the public, and will take place on March 21 at 7 PM at William Street United Methodist Church in downtown Delaware. Reserved seats are required and can be reserved here.
