From safer intersections to smoother roads and new roundabouts, Delaware County is laying down plans for a busy and transformative construction season. The newly released 2025-26 Road Construction Guide outlines a slate of infrastructure projects that will shape how residents travel countywide.

The guide focuses exclusively on county and township roadways, with larger projects topping $250,000 or those requiring road closures longer than two weeks. 🛣️ Countywide Pavement Resurfacing

May to October 2025

  • 💰 $3.5M County Funds + $4.5M Township Funds + $1M OPWC Grants

A key annual initiative, this project brings a fresh surface to worn-out roads across the county. Asphalt resurfacing and preventive maintenance will take place throughout the season.


🌉 Bridge Replacements: Small Structures, Big Impact

March to October 2025

  • 💰 $2M County Funds
  • 🚧 Closures of 2 to 5 months

Five bridges will be replaced with short-term closures, including three on Steamtown Road, one on Mills Road, and longer closures on Fulton Creek and Steamtown east of Ashley Road.


🚗 New and Improved Roadways

Green Meadows Drive (Lewis Center to Home)

June 2024 – June 2025
A brand-new 3-lane connector road with no traffic impacts during construction.

  • 💰 $3M total: Special Assessment + County + OPWC

Bale Kenyon Road Improvements – Phase 2

June – November 2025
Reconstruction with new curbs, gutters, and shared-use path.

  • 🚧 5-month closure with phased resident access
  • 💰 $3.75M from Orange Twp., OPWC, and County TID

🌀 Roundabouts Revolution

Worthington & Lewis Center Rd.

June – August 2025

  • 🚧 2-month closure
  • 💰 $3.3M Total (Federal and County Funds)
    Introducing a peanut-shaped roundabout to improve safety.

Big Walnut Rd. & Tussic St.

Summer/Fall 2025

  • 🚧 2-month closure
  • 💰 $3.5M County Funds
    Features a roundabout, path, and sidewalk enhancements.

County Line Rd. (Intel Area Access)

Fall 2025 – Summer 2026

  • 🚧 Closures of 2–3 months, done sequentially
  • 💰 $9M in State Economic Development Funds
    Two roundabouts to support increased commuter flow.

Home Road Rail Grade Separation

2026 – 2027

  • 💰 $17M County Investment
  • 🚧 No traffic impacts during construction
    A new bridge to carry traffic over CSX and Norfolk Southern railroads, connecting to the Lewis Center roundabout.

Shanahan Road Widening (US 23 to North Road)

Summer 2026 – Summer 2027

  • 💰 $4M from County, Township, and Developer
  • 🚗 One-way traffic maintained during construction

SR 3 & Lewis Center Intersection Upgrade

  • 💰 $2M County Funds
  • 🚧 2-month full closure east of SR 3
    Turn lanes, signalization, and a major culvert replacement are on deck.
