If you’re passionate about Delaware’s heritage or eager to influence its development, now is your chance to get involved in local government. The City of Delaware is currently seeking volunteers to serve on two important bodies: the Historic Preservation Commission and the Delaware North New Community Authority.
Preserving the Past: Join the Historic Preservation Commission
A seat is open for a city resident to serve on the Historic Preservation Commission, filling an unexpired term that runs through June 30, 2026. This commission plays a vital role in protecting and guiding the preservation of buildings, structures, and sites with historical and architectural significance in Delaware.
The seven-member volunteer group includes professionals from fields like architecture, historic preservation, real estate, and more — as well as Historic District property owners. The group meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 6:30 PM in City Hall.
Serving on this commission is an opportunity to help shape how Delaware honors and maintains its unique character and built heritage.
Guiding Growth: Serve on the Delaware North New Community Authority
For residents interested in development and infrastructure, a two-year term is available on the Delaware North New Community Authority (DNNCA). This special governmental body was created to help finance and manage infrastructure improvements within a specific part of the city.
As a member of the DNNCA board, you’ll help oversee funding for roads, utilities, parks, and other public amenities. The board also has the authority to levy a community development charge on area properties to support these efforts.
How to Apply
Interested residents can learn more about each group and fill out an application to serve by visiting the City of Delaware’s boards and commissions webpage:

Becoming a board or commission member is a meaningful way to contribute your experience, insight, and civic spirit to the community — and help ensure that Delaware continues to be a place of proud history and smart growth.
