It makes sense that big music needs big spaces and a big number of performers.
And few pieces of music get larger that the Requiem of Giuseppe Verdi, originally written in 1874 for four soloists, double choir, and orchestra.
Local music lovers are in for a treat on March 31 as the work is performed on the campus of Ohio Wesleyan University. Groups included in the performance are the university’s Choral Art Society directed by Jason Hiester; Capriccio Columbus directed by Larry Griffin; soloists Keyona Williams, Emily Spencer, John Nevergall, and Michael Young; and the Central Ohio Symphony.
All told, more than 200 musicians will fill the stage at Gray Chapel.
This will be the first time the Central Ohio Symphony has performed this powerful and moving choral work. Also on tap will be the world premiere of the Fanfare for the Fortieth Anniversary by Ben Goldberg.
