As work continues on the City of Delaware’s Point Improvement Project, a significant traffic shift is about to take place.
Beginning April 13, Central Avenue will close to through traffic in both directions for up to 45 days between Lake Street and the railroad bridge. The closure marks the next major phase of construction in one of the city’s most closely watched infrastructure efforts.
Here is our most recent story on this project; other coverage can be read here.
What Drivers Need to Know
Traffic will be rerouted around the closure zone using William Street and Lake Street for both eastbound and westbound travel.
At the same time, several nearby intersections and access points will see temporary changes:
- The east leg of the Central Avenue and Lake Street intersection will be closed.
- Central Avenue between Potter and East streets will remain open to local traffic only, accessible via Channing, Potter, Wade, and other side streets.
- Winter Street will be converted to right-in/right-out access only on both sides of Lake Street.
- East Street and Moore Street will be accessible მხოლოდ from Fair Avenue, not Central Avenue.
- Foley Street will be accessible only from William Street.
Timing and Signal Changes
On the evening of April 12, traffic signal adjustments will be made at the Central and Lake intersection. Traffic will be maintained during those changes.
City officials are encouraging drivers to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and follow posted detours throughout the construction period.
More information, including a detailed detour map, is available on the City of Delaware’s Point Improvement Project webpage under “Traffic Impacts.”
