The Powell Police Department plans to increase enforcement at the Olentangy and Liberty Street intersection in order to reduce the number of motorists making illegal left turns during the prohibited time frame.

It is illegal to make a left turn at the intersection from 4-7 PM Monday-Friday. Powell Police monitored the intersection during the week of August 13-17, 2018 and found that more than 150 cars made illegal left turns during the prohibited time frames.

Officers will issue citations instead of warnings during the following enforcement days – Tuesday, September 25, October 4 and October 10. Any violator will receive a $135 ticket.

Powell City Council unanimously approved an ordinance last September to permanently prohibit left turns from Liberty Street to Olentangy Street from 4-7 PM Monday-Friday. This decision was another step to Keep Powell Moving – an effort to improve traffic circulation, add parking and increase walkability in the City’s downtown.
