The Delaware General Health District’s Keep Delaware County Beautiful program is seeking volunteers to help pick trash out of the Scioto River on September 7.

The Scioto River Sweep will take place that day from 9:00 AM to Noon. Volunteers will meet up at 8:30 AM at the Bellpoint Community Church shelter on State Route 257, and proceed to  clean up riverbanks on foot and the river channel in canoes.

Equipment will be provided along with transportation to and from launch and pickup sites and a free picnic lunch. Canoes will also be provided. Volunteers who own canoes are welcome to bring them.

All volunteers younger than 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult.

Support and assistance for the Scioto River Sweep is provided by Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, the Scioto River Valley Federation, Central Ohio Contractors, Preservation Parks of Delaware County and the DKMM Solid Waste District.

To register, please contact Keep Delaware County Beautiful Coordinator Jenifer Way-Young at 740-368-1700 or at jway-young@delawarehealth.org.
