As we noted in a recent story, Christmas shopping time is nearing. Decorations are appearing on store shelves, and holiday planning has begun in many corners of Delaware County.

Speaking of such things, the annual fun which is “Shop with a Cop,” a program of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, is now accepting applications for the 2018 shopping experience. During this program each year, children have the opportunity to participate in gift purchasing alongside deputies from the Sheriff’s Office.[widgets_on_pages id=1]

According to the Department website, this year’s guidelines and requirements include the following:

  • Families must reside in Delaware County.
  • Children 12 and younger qualify to participate.
  • Applications will be reviewed/approved on a first-come basis. Once we’re full, we will no longer accept new applications.
  • First-time applicants will take precedent over families who participated last year.
  • Families participating in People in Need’s 2018 Holiday Clearinghouse will NOT qualify for Shop with a Cop.
  • Families will be notified by phone or e-mail by Nov. 12thPlease do not call us – we will call you.
  • Shopping date will be assigned by the Sheriff’s Office and will occur during the first week/weekend in December.

The deadline for the December 1 and 2 event is October 30, at which time applications must be submitted to the Sheriff’s Office.

Online applications and hard copy information is available here.
