This year we’re continuing our weekly look at unique events and attractions that are within an easy driving distance of Delaware County. We call these “Summer Road Trips.” Of course, we regularly feature the many extraordinary places to visit right here in Delaware County and encourage our readers to get out and experience what is on offer in our own backyard.

The unique kind of summer Ohio is experiencing has meant that trips and vacations have been kept a bit closer to home, and many are emphasizing outdoor experiences.

One easy to undertake day road trip for the Summer of 2020, particularly for those who enjoy the beauty of butterflies, is the extraordinary Butterfly Ridge in the Hocking Hills.

The attraction is a conservation project which showcases pollinator of many kinds, including butterflies, but also moths and bees. Opened in 2017, the property is owned by a family who open it to the public for guided hikes and treasure hunts for the kids.

Moth lightings take place on Saturday nights – the next on July 11 — with over 500 species of moths observable.

Butterfly Ridge has opened with health guidelines in place. Social distancing is required but easy to accomplish because of the wide trail; masks are recommended inside the gift shop. Hours are 10 AM to 5 PM daily except for Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Guided tours take place at 1 PM and 3 PM.

Admission is just $5.

For much more information, visit the Butterfly Ridge website here.
