The City of Westerville welcomed three new police officers and three new firefighters just before the Tuesday, September 1 City Council meeting.

The following men and women were joined by City Manager Dave Collinsworth, their families and representatives from the Westerville Divisions of Police and Fire as they swore to uphold their responsibilities to keep the community safe:

Westerville Division of Police

Officer Max Deka grew up in Medina and attended the University of Akron where he received a Bachelor of Science in Political Science/Criminal Justice. He participated in ROTC and was commissioned as a second lieutenant with the Ohio Army National Guard as an Air Defense Artillery Officer.

Officer Josh Hollyfield was born in Memphis and moved to Westerville in the summer of 2007. He graduated from Westerville South High School, class of 2011. He joined the Ohio Army National Guard and served as a wheeled vehicle mechanic.

Officer Scott Kirpan grew up in Moretown, Vermont. He graduated from Castleton State College with a degree in teaching. He served with the St. Petersburg Police Department in Florida before joining the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Department.

Westerville Fire Division

Firefighter Kyle Burden was born in Westerville, moving to South Carolina when he was a child. He attended college in Tennessee and returned to Ohio after graduating from the Fire Academy.

Firefighter Cameron Ellis hails from Grove City. He graduated from Grove City High School in 2016 and attended Columbus State Community College.

Firefighter Ashley Kristy currently lives in Reynoldsburg and graduated from Reynoldsburg High School in 2008. She attended the Ohio State University Newark campus and studied Biology before attending Columbus State Community College to complete her Fire Science studies.
