A local transportation company has received recognition for its cost effective and safe operation.
Delaware County Transit was presented with the Division III SOAR Award from the Ohio Transit Risk Pool at their Board meeting on September 10. The award recognizes DCT’s achievement of having the lowest cost of risk among pool members that operate less than one million miles annually.
“DCT should be proud of this award as it is a tangible result of their efforts to provide a safe and efficient transit system to the citizens of Delaware County” noted Ken Reed, OTRP’s Director of Risk Management.
DCT’s cost of risk was $0.36 per 100 miles operated during the 2019 loss year.
The Ohio Transit Risk Pool is a risk sharing/self-insurance pool established in 1994. Its membership is made up of 14 public transit agencies in the State of Ohio, including Lima/Allen County RTA, Akron Metro RTA, Ashland Public Transit, Butler County RTA, Delaware County Transit Board, Laketran, Lancaster/Fairfield Public Transit, Licking County Transit Board, Portage Area RTA, Start Area RTA, South East Area Transit, Southwest Ohio RTA, Toledo Area RTA and Western Reserve Transit Authority.
Collectively, OTRP members operate approximately 40 million miles annually utilizing about 1,600 vehicles and employing roughly 2,500 people.
