A free Community Bonfire hosted by the Powell Police Department and the Liberty Township /Powell Fire Department is being held this Saturday in Powell’s Village Green Park, 47 Hall Street.

This free event will be somewhat different from previous editions, chiefly due to health and safety guidelines for guests, vendors, volunteers, and staff worked out between the City of Powell and the Delaware General Health District.

Still, entertainment from Big Daddy Blue will be available on the amphitheater stage, as well as the roaring bonfire and the Phillips on Wheels food truck with its coneys/hotdogs, sliders/burgers, sides, and shakes. Local restaurants and shops will also be open.

You can also enjoy some liquid refreshment as the City of Powell’s new DORA (Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area) will be in place.

The fun takes place from 6 PM to 8 PM. The City of Powell has shared the following  “things to know before you go”:

Please consider registering in advance (you can do so here)

  • Stay home if you’re sick
  • Masks required
  • Keep a safe social distance at all times
  • Hand sanitizer stations will be available on site
  • The Village Green Lawn will be marked off with tables and/or straw bales for groups to stay together and allow for safe distancing
  • Bring a lawn chair or blanket for the Village Green Lawn
  • Warm up at the large bonfire pit but be mindful of the safe distancing markers on the ground
  • Be aware of guidelines and requirements established by businesses – these are not only for your safety, but for the safety of the employees as well.
