Some difficult news for Polaris Fashion Place Mall as a new year approaches.

Columbus Business First reported right before Christmas that two well-known retailers, The Gap and Banana Republic, have closed their locations at the mall.

For subscribers, that story can be found here.

According to a commenter on Reddit, going out of business sales have already taken place at these locations. Contributors to the discussion on Facebook about the closing noted the proximity to the Tanger Outlets and to a larger Eaton location.

The move has as much to do with national retailing trends as it does with the local shopping economy. This fall, trade journals stated that both chains, owned by the same company, would be closing over 100 stores before the end of 2023. A quick Google search shows similar news for stores across the country.

Other businesses are opening at Polaris at the same time. Earlier this month, we reported on the arrival of the new Belong Gaming Arena to a location on Lyra Drive near the mall.
