Another casualty of the retail shakeup nationwide, caused in part by changing consumer buying habits but also the impact of the COVID pandemic, is taking place locally.

In a recent social media announcement, the Officemax location in Glennwood Commons at 1000 Sunbury Road shared the following:

“Unfortunately, we will be closing the Delaware location on 11/14/2020. We are sad to not service this community anymore, but we are happy to help you until that date. Please ask a staff member for additional questions.”

Officemax, owned by Office Depot, has been moving steadily into the business to business arena and downplaying its direct to consumer services. The former CEO has speculated that within a handful of years, retail will account for only 20% of sales.

The entire restructuring plan has impacted and will impact a total of 13,000 employees.
