Downtown Delaware will soon have another business named after its most famous native son.

This time, however, we’re not talking about historic markers or statues. Instead, a new sandwich shop is making its appearance this month at 9 East William Street called The Rutherford Cafe.

Within a stone’s throw of his birthplace site and childhood school, the café honors the 19th President of the United States, Rutherford B. Hayes.

Gourmet sandwiches will be on offer at The Rutherford Café, as well as salads and “mini-sandwiches.”

As of this past weekend, social media posts shared that work in getting the business ready is moving forward. “Lights are up, walls are almost done, windows are being framed out and the ADA restroom is almost ready for fixtures! Floors should be going in very soon, and then we’ll be moving fast towards opening day! “

The Cafe’s new website is up and can be accessed here. The site promotes “Founders Day” offers. An online menu is available here (scroll down).
