Delaware County gained a new concept grocery last week, and another is coming soon.

The Pittsburgh-based Giant Eagle grocery chain has finished the transformation of its center at 4000 West Powell Road in Powell from a traditional footprint to the new “Market District” model.

According to the company, a Giant Eagle Market District destination store “…offers an enhanced food shopping experience geared toward food enthusiasts. Market District offers specialty and unique items not found elsewhere in an environment where customers’ passion for food is cultivated by a staff of food experts.”

“The new stores are inspired by the open-air markets of Europe and a true passion for food. Although each store is a bit different, catering to local appetites, most are known for serving up the many pleasures and possibilities of food. Expect the freshest local and exotic produce, seafood and meats, more than 400 artisan cheeses, a European-inspired charcuterie, housemade candies, extraordinary baked goods and a noted bottle shop. Some locations even have restaurants and curbside grocery pickup services.

The Powell Market District location, the first in Delaware County, will be joined soon as the store is transformed at 650 North State Street in Westerville.
