Communities and organizations across Delaware County have a new opportunity to move trail projects forward, with $100,000 now available through the county’s Trail Assistance Program.
The Delaware County Trails Committee is accepting applications for the 2026-2028 funding cycle through October 1. The program supports projects tied to the creation of new multi-use trails and improvements to existing trail networks throughout the county.
Who Can Apply
Eligible applicants include local governmental entities, park districts, and nonprofit organizations. Funding can support a range of trail-related work, including:
- Construction of multi-use trails in Delaware County
- Acquisition of property or easements for trail development
- Maintenance and improvement of existing trails
- Matching funds needed to leverage other grants or financing sources
That flexibility gives communities several ways to use the program, from advancing a long-planned connection to improving infrastructure already serving walkers, cyclists, and other trail users.
Building With Regional Connections In Mind
Applicants are encouraged to review the Central Ohio Greenways Design Guidelines for shared-use path development. Projects must also comply with applicable Americans with Disabilities Act requirements. Those standards reflect a broader effort to create trails that are not only locally useful, but also accessible and capable of fitting into larger regional networks.
An October Deadline
Applications are due by 4:00 PM on October 1. The application can be downloaded here.
The Delaware County Trails Committee is appointed by the Delaware County Commissioners. The commissioners also authorized the creation of a countywide trail system master plan in 2017, establishing a broader framework for expanding and connecting trail opportunities across Delaware County. The Trail Assistance Program serves as one of the practical tools for carrying that vision forward, helping local governments and nonprofit organizations turn trail plans into projects.
