A former intern at Delaware County Emergency Management who has been serving in a similar role in Tuscarawas County since 2017 is coming back to Delaware County.

Alex McCarthy has been chosen as the new Director of Delaware County Emergency Management and has accepted the position, according to a Facebook post. McCarthy has a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Atmospheric Science and a graduate interdisciplinary minor in Public Sector Policy and Management.

Alex will be joining the local agency on March 27.

Delaware County Emergency Management is responsible for coordinating emergency preparedness, response, and recovery efforts in Delaware County, Ohio. Some of the specific responsibilities of Delaware County Emergency Management include:
Planning and Preparedness: Developing and updating emergency plans and procedures to address a wide range of hazards and threats, including natural disasters, pandemics, and terrorist incidents.

Training and Exercises: Conducting training and exercises to ensure that emergency responders and community partners are prepared to effectively respond to emergencies.

Emergency Response: Coordinating the response of emergency services and other agencies during emergencies to ensure a timely and effective response.
Recovery: Coordinating long-term recovery efforts to help individuals and communities affected by disasters.

Public Education and Outreach: Providing public education and outreach on emergency preparedness and response, including the development and dissemination of emergency alerts and warnings.

Overall, Delaware County Emergency Management plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of the residents of Delaware County in times of emergency.
